Well, yesterday was a gorgeous 80-degree, sunshiney, warm day in Southern California and I couldn't help but go to the beach...it's my happy place! So we packed up and headed out!
I love how everything is a learning experience now! It was low tide when we got there. Excellent time to discuss how the tides work, the intertidal zone, tide pools and the creatures that live in them. And of course, not only do we just get to talk about them, but we get to explore them ourselves!
We had made our own underwater observer ahead of time out of a can, a cut ziplock bag and some rubber bands. I forgot to take pictures of it while at the beach. In the end we didn't use it that much on this trip. There was just so much to see without it that we kind of forgot to use it!
If you want a little basic information for your kiddos, you can start with these resources that I used before we went out...
